A delegation from Taiwan took part in the Women and the Economy Forum held by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Aug. 9-12 in Incheon, South Korea, to share the country’s gender equality and digital resilience policies.

According to the Executive Yuan, the group was led by Minister without Portfolio Lin Ming-hsin and comprised officials and representatives from Taiwan’s academic, business and civic sectors.

In response to the theme of “Promoting Women’s Economic Participation for Sustainable Growth,” Lin said the government sees the public care system as infrastructure that is key to enhancing economic resilience. He added that a digitally enabled, community-based service system is being developed to encourage women to remain in or return to the workplace.

Given the cross-border nature of gender-based violence facilitated by technology, the minister called on APEC members to investigate regional cooperation mechanisms and formulate governance standards to ensure and promote equality and safety for women in both the virtual and physical environments.

The EY’s Department of Gender Equality said many of this year’s delegates were invited to take part in panel discussions at the Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy to showcase Taiwan’s progress in promoting gender equality.

The delegates also held bilateral meetings with counterparts to exchange views on subjects such as gender perspectives in trade agreements, the prevention of gender-based violence, the care economy, inclusive and diverse policymaking, and the reduction of gender-based pay gaps, the department added.
